FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • After registering, you’ll choose from curated scene options or submit your own for approval. Scenes should fit your skills, personality, and casting type, regardless of original gender or age, as long as they make sense. Small edits (such as changing names or pronouns) are welcome.

Actors may film as many scenes as needed. We typically recommend three scenes for beginners to create a well-rounded reel showcasing comedy and drama, ideally in both business/office and personal/home settings. More seasoned actors often maintain seven to ten scenes, mixing leading, co-star, and supporting roles as their careers grow.

  • If you book more than one scene, all scenes are scheduled on the same filming day whenever possible. Each scene receives its own dedicated filming block, allowing time for preparation, wardrobe changes, and resets between scenes. Your call times will be emailed in advance, and you should plan to be on set for the full duration of your scheduled blocks.

  • StudioReel includes group-based Zoom coaching led by Director Walid Chaya, with individualized feedback for each actor during the session. You’ll also receive on-set coaching between takes to help capture your strongest performance.

Actors should be fully familiar with their scene by the Zoom coaching session. Think of this as learning the lines rather than simply memorizing them, so you can stay present and flexible on camera.

  • Yes. An acting reel is one of the most important tools agents and casting directors use to evaluate your on-camera ability, type, and range. While no reel guarantees representation or bookings, professionally produced scenes strengthen agent submissions, casting opportunities, and overall marketability in Los Angeles.

  • StudioReel follows a preset schedule to keep the program streamlined and affordable. Participants are asked to keep both listed filming dates available, as you’ll be confirmed for one of those dates once scheduling is finalized. The group Zoom coaching session takes place before filming and cannot be rescheduled. If you miss the scheduled coaching session, it is your responsibility to arrive fully prepared to set.

You are welcome to book an additional private 1-on-1 Zoom coaching session with us if you’d like extra preparation, but participation in the group coaching is not repeated or moved.

  • Yes. You should be fully familiar with your scene by the Zoom coaching session, not waiting until the last minute. Think of it as learning the lines rather than simply memorizing them—so you understand the scene, stay present, and respond naturally on camera.

  • You’ll receive a call sheet by email with your exact arrival time and schedule. Each scene includes a private 2-hour appointment, with approximately 30 minutes of on-set filming per scene. Most actors capture three or more takes per scene, with on-set coaching provided between takes to refine performance. Actors who book multiple scenes will have separate filming blocks and should expect to be on site for more than two hours total.

Actors are responsible for hair, makeup, and wardrobe, with wardrobe choices reviewed during Zoom coaching. Please bring any simple props needed for your scene (e.g., notebook, folder, pen).

  • After filming, you’ll receive your takes and select the strongest moments for a clean, simple edit. Final edited scenes are delivered within 2–3 weeks after production and are ready for casting profiles and submissions.

  • Yes. StudioReel is designed for actors of all experience levels—from beginners creating their first professional reel to seasoned performers looking to expand their range, add new character types, update outdated footage, or rebalance their reel (for example, adding more comedy, drama, business, or relationship-driven scenes).

Actors may combine StudioReel-produced scenes with professional bookings, student films, or indie projects as their careers grow, keeping their reels current and competitive over time.

  • Yes. Actors ages 7 and up may participate. After registering, please email us to request age-appropriate kids scene options to get started. For younger actors, we strongly recommend booking a private coaching sessions with Walid (in addition to group Zoom coaching) ahead of filming to ensure they are fully prepared before reporting to set. View our Kids page for upcoming children's programs.
